Giveaways are one of the best marketing tools that a business can use. Not only does it increase engagement among your social media posts, but it also spreads your business’ name around and allows for your followers to try out your products. However, if you haven’t hosted one before, you may not know exactly where to start. If you’re interested in hosting your very first giveaway for your business, here are some steps to make the process easier.
Choose a Social Media Platform
With the amount of social media sites available, it can be difficult choosing the best one for hosting your blog. Instagram is one of the most popular choices, with over 2.7 million posts in the giveaway tag. However, you can also use sites like Twitter and Facebook. If you want to reach as many people as possible, though, don’t feel like you have to pick only one social media site! You can host a giveaway on multiple sites, even offering people an extra entry if they visit your business’ other social media pages. This will encourage more people to not only participate in your giveaway but get to know your other sites, spreading awareness about your brand’s online presence.
Choose a Product
The most important part of hosting a giveaway is picking a product to giveaway that will catch people’s attention, encouraging them to buy from you in the future. This can come in many forms. Some Etsy shops like give away homemade products such as skincare items, crafts, and even home décor. If your business doesn’t offer physical wares and instead offers services such as online classes, you can also giveaway either a free session or a gift card.
Write an Attention-Grabbing Post
Once you know what you want to giveaway and where you would like to host your contest, it’s time to write a post that will not only give clear instructions but will catch people’s attentions, encouraging them to join and possibly even check out your business’ website. However, how you write your post depends on the site you are using. If you’re using Twitter or Instagram, make sure to include popular, relevant tags that will help draw attention on your post. As a general guide, though, make sure to use clear, concise instructions. Most popular giveaways have interested users follow their accounts, share the post, like the post, or even tag a friend. Sharing is more popular on Twitter and Facebook, while following and tagging a friend is more popular on Instagram where sharing a post isn’t as easy.
Pick a Winner
After you have posted your giveaway and waited a decent amount of time, it’s time to pick the winner. The best way to pick the winner is at random, but how you do that can vary. If you have a smaller post, you may find it easier to simply use a hat and slips of paper. This can also make for an interesting livestream. For larger giveaways, though, or ones where your followers can enter multiple times, it’ll be easier to use an only name chooser.
